Starbucks at 38th & Meridian
Area Map |
Overview In 2003, PK
Partners pioneered the urban redevelopment of the corner of 38th Street and
Meridian Street in Indianapolis by demolishing a dilapidated vacant gas station
and converting the site into a Starbucks Coffee Shop. This project pre-dated
the Maple Road (38th Street) Streetscape Improvements and was instrumental in
encouraging redevelopment of other commercial properties in the surrounding
area. The property is also a good example of the benefits that a public-private
partnership with the City of Indianapolis can provide in addressing the
environmental concerns related to the former gas station use. The design of the
building relates successfully to the stately older commercial properties in the
immediate area by incorporating a traditional brick and limestone detailing on
the façade of the building. The property was sold in 2007.
